We will endeavor to avoid such occurrence in the future. OUR DETROIT LETTER Dr. STANLEY returned home from Memphis on last Friday. His brother had about recovered. Mr. FRIERSON LANGSTON, of Guin, spent a few hours in town yesterday. “Jack” as he is familiarly called here, used to be “one of us” and we are always glad to have him with us. The Misses LOYD, from Bull Mt. were visiting in town yesterday. Mrs. LOGAN and Mrs. DALLA YOUNG, of Tupelo, Miss, are visiting relatives in this vicinity. Mrs. C. L. WHITE will return from Columbus today. Mr. VAN MOSLEY, of Sulligent, was shaking hand with his many friends here on yesterday. Mr. J. F. WHITE is expected to return from Memphis today. PEARCE, and filed his application in writing and under oath with copies of all the papers, proceedings, books and records, and published notices for the sale of the lands, and alleging that the purchased the lands therein described at Tax Sale, on the 30th day of June, 1886, for the taxes and costs due thereon; and that said papers, books and records have been destroyed by fire, and asking for substitution thereof as records of this court. It is therefore ordered the Monday the 28th day of January 1889, be set for hearing said application, at which time all person in interest may appear and contest the same if they think proper. PEARCE, of Pearce’s Mills spent part of the week in town. Mrs. WALTER H. MATTHEWS of Hamilton, is visiting her daughter Mrs. J. L. WHITE in town this week. Mr. P. C. HAMILTON, of Aberdeen, Miss., was in town the first of the week. Mr. FRIERSON LANGSTON returned from a collecting tour in the country on Wednesday. Dr. T. J. SPRINGFIELD, of Winfield, was on our streets this week. We received a communication from Winfield this week, but for want of space could not publish it. It will appear in our next issue. Our wide awake business merchant Mr. P. M. CAUDLE has been making decided improvement inside his store this week. New shelving and counters and also a full stock of groceries, farming tools, etc. Success to him. Mr. H. W. HALL a commercial traveler, was in town on yesterday. Mr. J. J.
