The Huntsville Weekly Democrat, 24 May 1882
  CHILDS.--On Monday, May 21, 1882, near Huntsville, Ala., Mrs. J. Hamilton 
Childs, aged 77 years.
  Mrs. Childs came to Huntsville about 40 years ago, opened a private school 
and afterward was connected with the Huntsville Female College, and, shortly 
before the war, became Principal of the Methodist College at Athens, Ala.  
After the war she came back to Huntsville, and has lived here a number of 
years.  She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church, noted for her 
generous contributions to the Church and her charities to the poor.
