Wheelus ==================================================================== January 1999 Data collected December 15th 1998 by Zenda Jo Wheelus. This cemetery is located inside Guntersville State Park, off of Alabama Hwy 227. From Park entrance: turn Left when road forks (go toward beaches), then turn Left at next road, go about " mile and you will see a locked gate on the Left; cemetery is inside this gate (key is available at Park Office on Hwy 227), travel this road 1 mile, turn sharp left up steep hill, cemetery is on right at end of gravel road. There are lots of unmarked graves, or graves marked by pieces of stones, in this cemetery. My Granddaddy said there used to be more stones that have since fallen off the edges of the hill. Several years ago the Park Service marked as many graves as possible with wooden markers. If all that was known was the surname they placed the surname on the marker. Burgess Dolly, dau. of A.
