When 227 turns right towards Dekalb County, continue straight ahead. The road is now the South Sauty Road. Turn left on Haygood Church Road. At the dead end, turn right. Kirby Cemetery is within a mile on the right. There is a green metal sign nailed to a tree and the cemetery is visible from the road. One section of graves are within a chain link fenced, left unlocked. The graves are clearly in rows and compared to other cemeteries in the area, have elaborate headstones. The other section of graves, located outside the fenced area, appear to be those of black people of the community. Most of these graves are not marked with headstones but are covered with a flat cement top with the engraving in the concrete. This is an old cemetery and inside the fenced section, the graves are almost perfectly aligned. Only the most recent graves have husband and wife together with one headstone. The others are buried in separate plots, adjoining, but with approx. 3 feet between each.
