This is a small one room church located on Old Bethel Road, in the Asbury Community. The church and cemetery are on the Marshall-Dekalb County line. They are in Marshall County, but as soon as you cross the road, you are in Dekalb County. The cemetery is well kept. Most of the graves are marked. There are about 15 graves that are marked with fieldstones with nothing on them. The following information is transcribed from a State of Alabama Historic Marker placed in the cemetery by the Alabama Historical Association in 1991: OLD BETHEL UNITED PRIMATIVE BAPTIST CHURCH AND CEMETERY Organized by 1847 as one of the first churches on Sand Mountain. First Meeting House erected 1855; buildings at present site constructed about 1855 and 1927. Preachers included Samuel Tyler, Levi Isbell, Jacob K. Dowdy, James R. Isbell, James R. Jones, Charles L. Isbell, George W. Drain, Nick Hulgan, Zach Isbell and Mark Hyde. Five Daughter Churches constituted between 1862 and 1895, including nearby Concord in 1870. Cemetery begun 1876. Sarah (Birdwell) Isbell among first white settlers in Madison County, 1805. Ambrose Nall a Sailor in the Union Blockade of the Confederacy. Elijah Isbell and John Bearden veterans of Union Cavalry during Civil War.
