The first person buried in the cemetery was Julia Ann Buckner Wheeler Rooks. She had commented to family members she thought the location would be a nice place for a cemetery. When she passed away sometime after 1880 the cemetery was established. Directions to the Rooks cemetery: From Albertville, AL at the intersection of US-431 and SR-75, take 75 N for approximately 1/2 mile (first traffic light) and make a left onto Martling Rd. Travel about 5 1/2 miles and make a right onto Asbury Rd. Asbury Methodist Church will be about 3 miles on the left. When you get to the church make a left turn (immediately) after you pass the church as if you were pulling into the church yard, but this is a road (no road sign is posted here, some maps have it listed as Asbury Church Rd). At about .8 miles you will see the cemetery up on the hill to your left in a fenced pasture. You will need to go on to the cross roads, make a left and go through the gate at the barn to drive to the cemetery. Make sure you close the gates as you go in and out.
