James D. Jordan along with Rev. Lemuel Chambers and Rev. Esquire Thomas "S.T." Collier formally of Clay County Alabama, organized a new church called "Beulah". The first meetings were held in a brush arbor. The church building was erected in 1883. Mrs. Nancy Ann Miller donated one acre of land for the church. The charter members were Richard Eubanks his wife Jane [Walker] Eubanks formally of Randolph County Alabama, G.W. Screws his wife Jane Screws, Rev. James D. Jordan his wife Harriet Jordan formally of Clay County Alabama and Wm H. McCollum his wife Dicy [Strickland] McCollum formally of the Randolph County Alabama. Rev Jordan was a circuit riding preacher, one of the churches he pastored was Hepsabah Baptist church in Cleburne County Alabama. Both Beulah and Hepsabah names are from the same verse in the bible: Isaiah 62:4: "No longer will they call you deserted, or name your land desolate, but you will be called HEPHZIBAH, and your land BEULAH for the lord delighted in thee, and thy land shall be married". Rev. Jordan pastored Beulah Baptist church from 1882-1885. Rev. Jordan was one of the organizers of the Marshall Baptist Association in 1887.
