C. (Chris) Blackman, about forty-five of Memphis, Tennessee, are held in the county jail here charged with the murder of W. R. (Bill) Coleman, night policeman in the town of Arab, tweleve miles southwest of Guntersville. The murder took place between one and two o'clock Saturday morning. The officer had been shot three times, once in the temple and twice through the body with a 32 caliber pistol. Parties returning from work at the arsenal in Huntsville about two o'clock Saturday morning found the dead man on the sidewalk near the drug store. His pistol a 38 Smith & Wesson, and his cap were missing. Two bullets passed through the body from the right side and one had entered the skull near the temple. Officers found a person who stated that policeman Coleman had had trouble a day or two before with Glenn Blackman for reckless driving and this gave officers the first clue as to who did the crime. Glenn Blackman was taken into custody by the officers. He told them the shooting involved C. C. Blackman, a cousin, who had been back to Brindlee Mountain from Memphis on a vist. Mr. Coleman was seventy-three years old and had lived in the Sol Community, Sand Mountain, of Marshall County all his life. For many years he had served as a deputy sheriff. Additional Comments: Mr. W. R. (Bill) Coleman, is my great grandfather. This is a copy of the newspaper article about his death.
