Hugh Runyan found dead. On Wednesday afternoon, a young man named Bob Woody, living near New Hope, employed by Arnts Bros., in getting out logs, found the dead and partly decomposed body of Hugh Runyan, a well known citizen of the Baker's Chapel neighborhood. The people of Deposit, Cottonville and Manchester were notified and a jury of inquest was empaneled. The body was resting on the knee and face and from the posture it was evident that Mr. Runyan had fallen forward and died without a struggle, presumably from heart disease. The deceased had left home on Monday morning at an early hour, and crossing the river in a skiff, had gone to a point just below Deposit on the Manchester side, where he was engaged in preparing logs for rafting to Decatur. It seems that he must have died suddenly on Monday afternoon as the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The jury of inquest were, Esq. P. Allen, acting as coroner, W. T. Edmonds, F. M. Maroney, W. I. Scott, T. A. Clark, Wm. Brown and Tip Davis. Dr. W. G. Able made the examination and no wounds or other evidence of violence were found. After the examination the body was carried to his home and buried in the old Roden graveyard. Mr. Runyan was a hardworking peaceful citizen who had no enemies. He leaves a wife, and one son, 14 years old. The Farmer's Alliance will perform the rites of a public service over his grave at three o'clock next Saturday, Sept 21, meeting at one o'clock at Baker's Chapel and forming into a line will march to Roden graveyard to pay the last sad rites to the departed.
