In February 1896, obituary data for Ephraim Alexander, a long-time resident of Marshall County, AL was provided to The Guntersville Democrat, Guntersville, AL by Rev. R. L. Phelps, of Mesquite Texas, who also formerly lived in Marshall County, Alabama. Mr. Alexander's Daughter Margaret Jane (Alexander)had married Mr. Clack Ragsdale in Marshall County, AL and they had moved to Texas. Mr. Alexander died while on a visit to Texas. Died in Texas: Ephraim Alexander, an old gentleman who came here from Union Grove, Alabama a few months ago died at the residence of Mr. Clack Ragsdale, in the Long Creek settlement, on Saturday the 25th. His remains were interred in the cemetery at this place at 10 o'clock Monday morning, with Rev. R. L. Phelps conducting the funeral service. Additional Comments: Ephraim Alexander, born in N. C., and his Wife, Eliza Ann (Hill) Alexander, were married in Marshall County, AL on 13 June 1841 (see page 96, 1836-1846 Marshall County, AL Marriages). They and their children, were picked up in detail "for the first time in Marshall County, AL" in the 1850 U. S. Census. He was shown "as one of four Alexander Households" in that Census. Ephraim lived in Marshall County, AL most of his life; however, he died while visiting some of his children in Texas in 1896 and was buried in Texas.
