W. Bolton, one of the county's oldest and best citizens, died at the home of his son, Arthur Bolton, on Georgia mountain, Monday morning. Burial took place at the Manchester cemetery this morning at ten o'clock. Mr. Bolton was 88 years old and formerly lived at Manchester. He had been a resident of the county many years and was highly respected by all who knew him. Three sons, two daughters and other relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing. Additional Comments: The Death of Richard Bolton in Marshall County, AL on 28 July 1919 is recorded in Alabama Deaths, 1908-59 (Volume 18, Roll 1, Page #355). Per Page 239 of the 1850 U. S. Census of Marshall County, AL (Bluff Beat, in District No. 41), 29 November 1850: Richard W. Bolton came to America with his Stepfather (Charles Crofs/Cross, 33, a Ship Carpenter, born in Scotland); his Mother (Jane Crofs/Cross, 40, born in England); his Stepsister (Jane E. Crofs/Cross, 4, born in England); and two other Bolton Children (Margaret Bolton, 17, born in England and John A. Bolton, 11, born in England). Per the 1900 U. S. Census of Marshall County, AL (Warrenton, District 91, Precinct #14), 15 June 1900: Richard W. Bolton, a Farmer, was born in England in February 1836. Both his Father and his Mother were also born in England. He immigrated to the U. S. in 1850 and became a Naturalized U. S. Citizen. Per Page 147 of the 1857-1869 Marriage Records, Marshall County, AL, James W. Fennell, a Minister of the Gospel, certified that, on 24 June 1860, he joined together in matrimony Richard W. Bolton and Vina Elizabeth McMinn. In Confederate Pensioners of Marshall County, Alabama, 1889-1959, compiled by Betty Taylor & Tempie Wilabay, 344 Hill Avenue, Guntersville, AL 35976-1114, dated 1995, showing newspaper lists of pension checks received by the Probate Judge of Marshall County, AL, from state officials at Montgomery, AL for Pensioners of the War Between the States (the Civil War, 1861-1865), (1) it listed R. W. Bolton in The Guntersville Democrat, November 26, 1896, under "Ex- Soldiers and Ex-Sailors" who were drawing Confederate Pensions of "$10.35 Per Quarter" and, (2) it listed R. W. Bolton in The Guntersville Advertiser, January 30, 1917, under Class "1" Confederate Pensioners. Both Richard W. Bolton and his Wife, Vina Elizabeth (McMinn) Bolton are buried, with many other family members, in the Cooley Cemetery at Manchester, outside Guntersville, in Marshall County, AL.
