McDowell Published June 29, 1944 The Boaz Leader Funeral services were held at The Church of God, June 14th for Pvt. Walter W. McDowell age 36. Rev. L. H. Aultman of Alabama City officiated with Drinkard- Brown Service directing. Pvt. McDowell met an untimely death by being run over by a lumber truck, June 6, near Camp White, Oregon. He entered service January 11. He received basic training at Camp Claborne, La., and was then sent to Camp White, Oregon. He was 37 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara McDowell; 4 children, C. W., Dorris, Shirley and Brenda Gail, all of Boaz, 3 brothers, Henry, Joe and Alfred, all of Boaz; 2 sisters, Mrs. Aline Palford of Winter Haven, Fla. and Mrs. Estelle Payne of Boaz. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery where full Military Honors were conferred. Camp Sibert furnished the firing squad and the pallbearers. His many friends in and around Boaz mourn his passing.
