This undated portrait of Martha Jane(Evans)and Thurmon Beamon Maddox obviously dates from early in their marriage. Beamon Maddox, youngest son of David and Rebecca(Hunt?)Maddox, married Martha Jane Evans, eldest daughter of James Marion and Frances(Willard)Evans, in Butts Co. GA on December 19, 1877. Their first child, David Carlton Maddox was born there August 28, 1878. Shortly after the 1880 census, the couple moved to Marshall Co. AL, where their second son, Monroe Dolphus Maddox, was born near Guntersville March 6, 1881. Five more children, three girls and two boys, were added before Martha’s death May 23, 1893. On February 3, 1895, “Turmon Beaman” Maddox married Martha’s sister, “Sara Frances” Evans(spellings from their marriage certificate)in adjacent Dekalb Co. AL, where the James Evans family had settled. The Maddox family was listed on the 1900 Marshall Co. census, near Oleander, AL-in the 12th district. For more Maddox family details, see other photos, and the summary for the great family photo(c.1899)on this site Larry C. Knowles--July 30, 2006 Additional Comments: David Carlton Maddox moved into Morgan Co. AL(west of Marshall Co.) Brothers, Monroe Dolphus & William Homer Maddox, moved to Travis Co. Texas, near sister, Frances Rebecca, who had married William Noah Daniel in Marshall Co., AL in 1903. Look for additional information in these areas.
