Edward Fichet Born: March 28, 1838 Died: March 10, 1893 Buried: Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, AL Edward married Elizabeth Scheuerman (daughter of J.V. and Elizabeth Scheuerman) on Feb 26, 1866 in Mobile, AL. Died: March 10, 1861 The family immigrated to the United States in the year 1835. Joseph Fichet was a leather merchant and his family resdience was at 16 S. Conceptioin St. Two of their sons served in the Confederate Army. This was revealed in an article published in the Daily newspaper the Mobile Register Newspaper dated Aug. 1, 1875 in a Tribute to Joseph Fichet. This tribute stated that he had cast his fate "with our own South in the blood of a beloved son sealed his devotion to her cause." Some records have the family name spelled Fitchet. As stated above the first son Edward married Elizabeth Scheuerman. Their daughter, Elodie, married David P. Burns. Elodie and David had three children but only their daughter Mabel Theresa lived into adulthood. Mabel married Martin S. McGowan Sr. They had a son David McGowan who is my grandfather.
