Cutts SEP 1999 Martin Sylvester McGowan Born: May 23, 1895(this is new information, I didn't have this before) Died: Dec. 23, 1952 Buried: Catholic Cemetery, Mobile, AL Father of Martin: Charles Alphonsus Ligouri McGowan Born: 1865 Died: 1941 Buried: Uniontown, KY, St. Agnes Catholic Church Mother of Martin: Hortense Catherine Morgan Born July 16, 1866 Died: Feb. 20, 1904 Charles and Hortense were married Oct. 30, 1883 in Whiteside, Tenn. MARTIN'S WIFE Mabel Theresa Burns Born: Feb. 15, 1899 Died: Oct. 23, 1979 Buried: Catholic Cemetery, Mobile, AL Mabel's Father: David P. Burns Mabel's Mother: Elodie Fichet I will be sending information on these two soon. Martin and Mabel resided at 607 Conti Street. Martin known as Mac owned and operated a pharmacy until the big Depression years when he lost his business. The family then moved to 1802 Stone St. in Toulminville, a suburb of Mobile. Catherine and John Patrick were born at that residence. The family moved to St. Stephens Road also in Toulminville where Rosalie Ann was born. The older children attended Gorgas Public School and when in high school the girls attended Convent of Mercy, which was the school there mother Mabel attended. David attended Murphy and Pat was the only one to graduate from McGill Institute. The family moved to Whistler where Mac owned and operated his own pharmcy untitl his deat on Dec. 23, 1952. He was killed in an automobile accident leaving Mabel with five young children to rear. She later moved to Springhill another suburb of Mobile and resided there until she moved and made her home with her daughter Mabel Theresa McGowan Rooney who had become a widow. She resided on Walton Ave. with her daughter until Oct. 23, 1979 when she died peacefully in her sleep. She and Martin are buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Mobile, AL inthe same lot with her parents and sister. CHILDREN OF MARTIN AND MABEL MCGOWAN 1. David Charles McGowan Born: Aug. 7, 1921 Died: Dec. 18, 1991 Married: Rubly Langley on Oct. 16, 1944, Little Flower Church, Mobile, AL They had ten children: Ruby Mary, Linda, David Jr., John, Annette, Peggy, Richard, Celia, Artie and Danny Leon. 2. Martin Sylvester McGowan Born March 17, 1923 Married: Hazel Burns(no relation) on April 16, 1948. Three Children: Dianne, Larry and Carol. 3. Mabel Theresa McGowan Born: Jan. 9, 1925 Married Patrick Rooney Feb. 12, 1949 One daughter: Venetia 4. Elodie McGowan Born: Jan 16, 1926 Married: Claude J. McQuillen, Jr. Two Children: Claude J. III, and Alicia Elizabeth 5. Mary Angela McGowan Born; March 14, 1929 Married Dwaine Games on Nove 24, 1949 Three Children: Aruthur, Terri, and Reni' 6. Edward Fichet McGowan Born: July 29, 1930 Married Nathalie Cady on Dec. 22, 1962 Six Children: Lorissa, Deloria, Erin, Paul, Mark and Rose 7. Margaret Rose McGowan Born: Dec. 19, 1931 Married: William J. Scott on Sept. 25, 1954 Eight children: William J., twin Michael and Martin( Mike and Mac) both deceased, Angela, Patricia, Bradley, Rose and Mary Jo. 8. Cathernine Patricia McGowan Born: June 6, 1935 Married Frank Hughes Five Children: Allen(deceased), Sandy, Ann Marie, Lee and Laurie. 9. John Patrick McGowan Born July 30, 1936 Married Linda Finch on April 26, 1958 Four Children: John P. III, Cheryl, Jeff and Nello(killed in an auto accident) 10. Rosaliea Ann McGowan Born: Aug. 6, 1940 Married: John Druhan April 15, 1961 Four Children: John, Ross, Martin and Thomas. David Charles was my grandfather. He died in his sleep. His daugther Linda is my mother. I loved him dearly. This information was passed onto me by my great aunt Elodie McQuillen. Mary Shaddox
