The family came from Burgstat am Main, Bavaria Germany and it is a very 
common name there.  It is most probable that the family arrived in New 
Orleans and came to Mobile, Alabama shortly thereafter.

The name Scheuerman is the original family spelling of the name.  Upon 
arrival in America certain family members have chose to use alternate 
spelling---Scherman, Sherman.
