Father- Thomas St. John, b. in Walton, NY Feb. 12, 1812; Mother- Ellen Frances Gaines, b. in St. Stephens, Ala. Dec. 21, 1823. Pat. Grandfather- John Trowbridge St. John of Norwalk, Conn.; Pat. Grandmother- Mary Stocton. Mat. Grandfather- Francis Henry Gaines; Mat. Grandmother- Mary Henry. Married on Nov. 28, 1883, Mary Philomena Quigley, daughter of Stephen Boyer Quigley of Eastern, Pa. and Mary Jane Mountain of Rockingham, Iowa. Children- 1- John Randolph St. John; 2- Aline St. John Arnold, who married Robert Watson Arnold of Waverly, Va.; 3- Thomas Gaines St. John. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Aug. 12, 1871; Dismissed Dec. 26, 1871 for neglect of duty. Reinstated ca. 1873. Had to repeat 4th Classman (Freshman) year; Resigned ca. 1874.
