LOCATION: This cemetery is located on a private, unpaved road deep in a wooded glade in an area known as Hat Hammock in the Heron Bay community. Take Highway 59 (Bellingrath Road) south to Heron Bay Loop and turn left. There is a convenience store opposite the entrance. You reach the cemetery by means of a rather long, winding shell road lined with wild flowers on either side. LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE: 30º 22' 19" N, 88º 14' 04" W. DESCRIPTION: We've tried to describe briefly the marker and any slab or other distinguishing feature of each grave site. Accompanying us was Clyde Sprinkle, a long-time resident of the community, who knew the identity of the individuals buried in some of the unmarked and uninscribed graves. His remarks are noted in brackets. BURIALS: [3 uninscribed adult-size slabs; according to Clyde these are Henry and Glena COVAS and their son Rafael Fidel, who were Basques from Spain.] "In loving memory of Henry Clay MABRY, born Feb. 16, 1890 died July 23, 1944" "In loving memory of Glena [Johnson] MABRY born Oct. 2, 1893 died Nov. 11, 1958" [uninscribed infant-size slab] [uninscribed adult-size slab] Elija JOHNSON [father of Glena] 1856-1925 Sidney E. Cooper 1911-1946 [This individual was originally from Baldwin Co., Alabama] According to Clyde, there are probably dozens of unmarked graves in this cemetery.
