WHISTLER CEMETERY-THERRELL ANNEX
LON: 30° 45' 37" N  LAT: 88° 06' 55"  Legal Location: T3S R1W SEC 36
Whistler Cemetery, Therrell Annex is located in Eight Mile, Mobile County, Alabama. Directions Bel Air mall, 
Mobile, AL. Depart Bel Air Mall, on Bel Air Blvd. (North) and travel .2 miles. Turn LEFT (West) onto Airport 
Blvd. and travel .6 miles. At I-65 Exit 1/Airport Blvd., turn RIGHT (North) onto I-65 and travel 4.8 miles. At I-
65 Exit 8/US-45, turn LEFT (North-West) onto US-45 [SR-17] and travel 1.6 miles. Turn RIGHT (East) onto Branch 
Ave. and travel .4 miles. Bear RIGHT onto W. Main St., and turn left into cemetery gate. 
The cemetery is surrounded by a chain link fence with white concrete column gate posts. This cemetery is not a 
perpetual care site and is maintained by surviving lovedones of those interred. 

A verbal history was given to me by Mr. John Gray on the cemetery grounds. "Mark Therrell bought this land and 
laid out the plots supposedly for people. But they aren't long enough. If you turn a couple side ways at the end, 
maybe get five in there. He was old when he laid it out. Mark Therrell was an old retired railroad man. He bought 
this land for the cemetery, some how or other, and the lots paid for the ground. I think he is buried over there 
across the street. He has cousins buried here on this side.  They tried to purchase the property behind this but 
the people wouldn't sell. My mother was the first person to be buried in this cemetery in April 1951." (Her name 
was Sarah Margaret Gray.)

This listing is complete as of April 26-27, 2001, when I surveyed the cemetery and recorded these tombstones. 
There are 404 marked graves in addition to several unmarked slabs for adults. This cemetery is still in use.
