Creek War Card numbers 1. 36310075 Number of personal papers herein = 0 Book mark: left blank See also = left blank Pg 3 STATE OF ALABAMA County of Henry On this 11th day of November one thousand eight hundred and fifty A.D. personally appeared before me, a justice of the peace within and for the county and state aforesaid. Samuel Vickers aged fifty seven years, a resident of Santa Rosa county in the state of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Samuel Vickers who was a private in the company commanded by Captain M. Brigman in the 49th regiment of Alabama militia commanded by Col. John Currie in the war of the Creek Indians of Alabama in the year 1836. He volunteered at Fort Irvington Barbour Co, Alabama on or about the fifteenth day of May A.D. 1836 for the term of Three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of Twenty five days and was honorably discharged at Fort Irvington, Barbour Co on the tenth day of June A.D. 1836 as will appear by his original certificate of discharge herewith presented. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which he may be entitled, under the “Act granting Bounty Land to certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States,” passed September 28th 1850. Samuel his X mark Vickers sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written, and I hereby certify, that I believe said Samuel Vickers to be the identical man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the age above stated. Joseph Watson J.P. Pg 3. Hand written document. The State of Alabama, Clarke County On this 30th day of July1855 before me John A. Crate, a justice of the peace for said county and state, personally appeared. Samuel Vickers aged 63 years. A resident of Clarke Co, Alabama who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical person who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Moses Brigman in the regiment of -- commanded by Col. --- -- Curry in the war of 1812 – 1814 having volunteered in the state of Alabama and that he has received for said services Bounty Land Warrant # 11,554 of 40acres, under the act of 28th September 1850. To which warrant has been sold. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which he is entitled under the act passed March 3rd 1855, never having received Bounty Land accept as above stated. Samuel his X mark Vickers Sworn to and subscribed before me the say and year above written, for the same day personally came before me I.M. Wilson and D. Daffur residents of Clarke County Alabama to me known credible witnesses who being duly sworn declare that they were present and saw Samuel Vickers sign his name to the foregoing declaration, and that from this personal acquaintance with him they believe that he is the identical person who performed the military service herein named, and who has received a warrant therefore, and they further swear that they are disinterested in his claim. He was from KENT Co, MD and named Samuel Vickers. Underlined Hon. Jas W. Barnett obtained a Land Warrant for him early in? 1852. The State of MD has grants. Abbeville, Henry Co, Alabama BM 52nd ________? Additional Comments: Samuel, also served in the war of 1812-1814 HE was b. abt 1792 probally along the Oconee River, Montgomery Co, GA. His father was Joel Vickers, his mother Rebecca(Becca), who settled in Henry Co, Ala after leaving GA. His siblings were listed on Joels Will as Stephen, Joel, Thomas, William, Avia, Nancy, & Milly. Joel had a brother named Jacob who was Executor on his will. Samuel married Mary Unk b. NC abt 1830 they had a least 6 children Andrew J, Benjamine, Joel, John, Delila,& Louisa. Samuel was 71 on the 1860 Mobile Co, Ala census. The older folks in the family said that he was murdered about 1860 at his home near Lott & McCrary Rd the day before he was to appear in court as a witness in a case.
