A man named John E. Allen, a notorious scoundrel, who has been in jail three separate times, was shot by Mr. Thos. Fincher, a deputy sheriff who had a warrant for his arrest from Judge Semmes, on a charge of forgery. Having collected a posse for the purpose of arresting Allen, the party were in Fincher's house, when Allen walked into the room with a musket on his shoulder, and defied them to arrest him. Mr. Fincher immediately closed with him, and took the gun away, when Allen seized another gun that was in the room and turned to fire. Mr. Fincher, seeing that unless he defended himself, he would be killed, fired at Allen, the charge taking effect in the left side, causing instant death. The body was brought in and placed in the jail by Mr. Fincher, who gave himself up to await the result of the inquest. The coroner was notified and an inquest held, but no verdict was rendered last night.
