Justifiable Homicide

The Verdict of the Jury of Inquest on the Body of Mike Fincher

	The following is the verdict of the coroner's jury which investigated 
the killing of Mike Fincher in the Wheelerville precinct:
	State of Alabama, Mobile County,
	At an inquisition held and taken this fourth day of July, 1893, upon 
and in view of the body of Mike Fincher, then and there lying dead, we the 
jury decide that the deceased came to his death at the hands of J. Westley 
Thomas, while in the discharge of his official duty as deputy sheriff. We the 
jury exhonorate the said J. Westley Thomas, and further find the killing of 
Mike Fincher was a justifiable homicide. (Signed by) Elmore Neese, foreman; 
Robert L. Long, Henry Neese, Thomas Neese, William Neese, jurors. Approved: 
Henry Baker, justice of the peace and acting coroner.
