He had just returned from a hunt and was eating his supper when the report of a double barrel shotgun rang out in the stillness of the night air and Mr. Taylor fell dead, both loads entering his right side. The assassin escaped under cover of the darkness. There is a general opinion prevailing in the neighborhood that the assassination grew out of a criminal case soon to be tried in the city court wherein Mike Fincher is defendant on a charge of criminal assault, the daughter of Taylor being the complainant. Sheriff Holcombe left yesterday afternoon for the scene of the killing to make an investigation, and will not return until this morning.
