Neely, Jr., who was shot by Matthew Welsh on Friday, December 20 during a row on St. Stephens Road, died Monday morning about 10 o'clock at the Providence Infirmary from his wound. Neely was wounded three times, one of the bullets penetrating a lung, which caused his death. Welsh, who surrendered after the shooting and was released the next day on $5,000 bond was re-arrested Monday by Sheriff T. T. Palmer and locked up in the county jail on the charge of murder. The killing of Neely was brought about, it is alleged, over the question of a five foot boundary line that separated the property of the men involved. The two men were at dagger's points and several difficulties and lawsuits had taken place. On December 20 Welsh and Neely met in the road near the Bull's Head in the Prichard neighborhood and a fight followed. Welsh used his gun shooting Neely three times. Welsh claimed self-defense. so far as is known Neely made no statement concerning the affair. Additional Comments: The death certificate lists his name as Thomas C.
