Arrangements by Roche Mortuary. ------------------------------------- DAVID SYLVANUS STOKES David Sylvanus Stokes, native of Wilcox County, AL, and a resident of Prichard, Mobile County, AL for the past three and a half years, died at the residence Beverly Street, Prichard, AL. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary F. (Pendarvis) Lewis Stokes, two sons, David Stokes of Mobile, and Benjamin Hardy Stokes of Wilmer, Ala; four daughter, Mrs. George Wood of Petal, MS; Mrs. W. J. Owens of Moss Point, MS;Mrs. J. K. Murray of Crichton and Mrs. R. W. Seals of Prichard, AL; 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Mr. Stokes was a member of Raphael Semmes Camp, No.11 United Confederate Veterans and Company D. 24th Alabama regiment. His funeral will take place from Roche Mortuary Broad Street Methodist Church at 2: 00 o’clock this afternoon with the Rev. John A. Whisett officiating. The following grandsons served as active pallbearers: Roy Owen, Ora Owen, Vernon Stokes, Robert Murray, Cecil Waltman and Jesse Murray. Honorary pallbearers were the following members of U. C. V., of which the deceased was a member, M. T. Judge, James Powers, S. W. Morgan, D.C. Greer, Rev. M. P. H. Potts, M. W. McEvoy and R. A. Lambert. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Moss Point, Jackson County, Miss. They married Feb 11, 1866 in Mobile, Alabama; died August 31, 1894. Nancy died after being throw from a buggy. Children of Nancy and David Stokes: David, Emily, Laura, Mahala and Winnie Stokes. Second wife: Mrs. Mary (Pendarvis) Lewis Stokes, married July 22, 1896, in Moss Point, Jackson County, MS, moving on to Mobile County. Children of Mary Frances Pendarvis Stokes: Anne, Vivian and Ben Stokes. Buried Howell Cemetery, George County, MS.
