Dickin Died March 23, 1885 in the 74th year of his age Additional Comments; Shady Grove Cemetery is off Airport Boulevard to your right, between Newmen Road and the Mississippi state line. John R. Dickin born 1815 and died 23 Mar 1885, From about 1860 to about 1870, he operated a ferry from Alabama to the Mississippi State Line. It was considered Dicken's Ferry for a time, but, time has seen the name changed. In Mobile, Alabama, there is still a road called Dicken's Ferry Road that is believed to be named for the Dicken's family.
