Located: Off of Ridge Road west of Peterman History contributed by: Linda Andress Kennedy, descendent of the Andress Family. Stephen Andress moved his family here from SC in 1819. He was a trustee of Solemn Grove Academy in 1820; a school between Flat and Limestone Creeks. Stephen also served in the War of 1812 and the Indian Wars. The Andress Cemetery was there in 1839, when Stephen Andress died and was buried on his property there. Many of his family were buried there. I know a lady who is almost 100 years old who attended a funeral there when it was in use by the Andresses. I was told that many years ago they buried servants in the rear of the cemetery; that was customary in those days. Most of the headstones are gone now and someone really should stop the disturbance of the old burial plots in this historical cemetery. New graves have been added since the old stones disappeared. I don't know who adopted the cemetery, a nearby Church, I was told. They have erected a fence on the front of the old cemetery. I can produce witnesses that there are many rows of old graves in the Andress Cemetery, extending at least half way into the present plot. Old graves have been disturbed there. This in most illegal.
