Porter Cemetery Location: From the SW corner of the Monroe County Courthouse Square, go south on So. Mt. Pleasant Ave., over a railroad track (where the road turns to dirt) for a distance of 3.1 miles. The Porter Family cemetery is in the woods on the left (east) of the road. It is about 25 - 50 yards before the next railroad track. The cemetery is in the woods and somewhat difficult to see. There is currently a "gap" in the fence leading to the cemetery. It has been learned that this location was purchased from the U. S. Government by Richard T. Porter in September 1860. The overall plat covered 280 acres. It is identified by, and known as, Accession/Serial Number AL2100__.300. This information was found in the Bureau of Land Management - General Land Office Records. This cemetery was surveyed in February of 2002. Revised September 2002 Where an * is found, it indicates that the data was not readable.
