Davis, Tabitha Davis his wife, John D. Davis and Mary M. Davis his wife. State of Alabama Monroe County} Know all men by these presents that we John D. Davis and Mary M. Davis his wife of the one part and Edmund Watley of the other part all of the County and State aforesaid. Witnesseth that we the said John D. Davis and Mary M. Davis hath for and in the consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to us in hand paid hath bargained sold and do by these presents bargain, sell, release and confirm unto the said Edmund Whatley a certain tract or parcel of land bounded and butted as follows being the [NW 1/4 of NE 1/4 Section No. 8, Township No. 9 Range No. 8] situated in the County of Monroe and in the district of land offered for sale at Cahaba the rites whereof we the said John D. Davis and Mary M. Davis our heirs and assigns do forever warrant and defend unto the said Edmund Whatley and to his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever~ Together with all the improvements and priviledges thereunto belonging, in witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this the second day of June and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty~ Signed sealed and acknowledged in present of us John D.
