This file is copyrighted and contributed by: Ruth Newlan ==================================================================== March 2003 Know all men by these presents that I Stephen Steele of Monroe County and State of Alabama for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to me in hand paid by Mrs. Mary James late Mary Oliver of the same County and State the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have remised released and forever quit claimed and by these presents do remise release and forever quit claim unto the said Mary James her heirs assigns a certain tract parcel or piece of land situate in the county aforesaid and now in the seizure and possession of the said Mary James being a part of section sixteen in Township six of Range five bounded and described as follows to wit; beginning at the common angle or corner of sections nine, ten, fifteen and sixteen running thru South 44 degrees west forty nine 30/100 chains to the Alabama River thence in a South eastern direction by the meanderings of said River to a point when the section line between sections fifteen and sixteen meets the river thence north on the line of sections fifteen and sixteen to the place of beginning said tract containing by Estimation one hundred acres and 92/100 of an acre be the same more or less to have and to hold the aforesaid premises with all the privileges and appurtenances to the said piece or tract of line belonging or appertaining unto the said Mary James her heirs and assigns to her and their sole use forever so that neither I the said Stephen Steele nor my heirs nor any person or persons claiming under me or them shall at any time hereafter by any way or means have claim or demand any right or title to the aforesaid premises or appurtenances or to any part or parcel thereof forever. And Elizabeth I. wife of Stephen Steele in consideration of ten cents to her paid the receipt whereof she doth hereby acknowledge doth hereby release to the said Mary James her heirs and assigns all her right and title of Dower in the afore granted premises~ In Testimony whereof I the said Stephen Steele and Elizabeth I. my wife have hereunto set our hands and seals this twenty fifth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one.
