Pittman for the killing of Sheriff Jno S. Harrengton, the Negro woman Alice Snider, and for assault with intent to murder Howard Snider, was begun before Justice J.W. Posey at 8 0'clock last Thursday morning. Notwithstanding the necessarily slow and tedious method of examing witnesses, the court room was well filled during the entire session which occupied three days. The taking of evidence was completed late in the afternoon Friday and the opening argument was made by F.W. Hare, Esq, followed by Pierre Gibson Esq. for the State. Argument was resumed Saturday morning, Mr. Hibbard, Wiggins, Hybart and Miller sparking for the defense, McCorvey and Stallings closing for the State. Argument was concluded about 5 pm and the audience waited with bated breath the decision of the Justice. It was received without demonstration. The defendant, Mr. Pittman was admitted to bail in the sum of $500. in each of the three cases. Before the friends of the defendant succeeded in making the bond, new warrants were sworn out and served. The second hearing will take place before Justice S.H. Daily tomorrow.
