Monroe Journal July 14, 1904
The preliminary trial of Edward English for the killing of John McDuffie set 
for Friday of last week, did not take place as expected and the large crowd 
which came to town to hear the evidence in detail went away disappointed.  The 
attorneys for the State and for the defendant agreed to bail in the sum of 
$2500. and the bond was accordingly fixed at that amount, which was promptly 
given and Mr. English released.
