The Monroe Journal July 21, 1921
D.C. Welch, a teamster for the J.M. Wiggins Mill Company was struck by 
lightening and instantly killed during a thunderstorm at Claibourne on 
Wednesday afternoon of last week. Mr.Welch was engaged in unhitching his team
in order to take refuge from the storm when the bolt struck him. Two of the 
oxen were knocked down and stunned by the shock
