Hightower, a deputy sheriff, was killed by Willis Johnson near Goodway on last Friday morning. Johnson was under indictment for murder in Clarke County and a reward had been offered for his arrest. Hightower is said to have been hunting and accidentally ran across Johnson at a cane mill. It is said that when they met, Johnson opened fire over the shoulder of his wife. Two of the bullets took effect in Hightowers' body, one in the head and one in the back. Mr. Hightower was an ex-service man having served during the World War with the 82nd Division and was well known in this section. Up to this time, Johnson has not been captured.
