Monroe Journal June 18, 1903
A second preliminary trial of David K. Smith and also of his brother James 
Smith for the killing of Dr. Burrel J. Shirley was had before Justice Thomas 
H. Brantley on Monday. The evidence was about the same as the former 
examination and the defendants were again acquited.
