Interest in this occasion centered in the trial of four defendants apprehended in the charge of destroying cattle dipping vats, of which lawless proceedings there was something of an epidemic in some portions of the County several weeks ago. Four persons were arrested on the above charge, three of whom were brought to trial before Judge Fountain at this term of the court. The third case was continued until next term. Of those tried, Walter Irwin and Richard Boone were convicted and assessed fines of $1000. each. sentences of 12 months at hard labor for the County in addition . Notice of appeal was filed by both defendants and bail fixed at $300, Rhode Coleman, a mere lad, made full confession in open court and was fined $25. with a hard labor sentence of 12 months. On account of his youth the sentence was suspewnded and the boy remitted, contingent upon future good conduct. William Colemans docket on the same charge was granted a continuance. A.J. Qualls, charged with failure to dip cattle after notice, was fined $60. and costs of court.
