File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: STEPHEN LEE ================================================================================ May 2003 The Monroe Journal March 15, 1889 Died - At his home near River Ridge, Ala., March 5, 1889, Bryant Rachels, an old and highly esteemed citizen - aged 76 years. He was born in Georgia in 1813. His father moved to Alabama when he was quite young, settling in Montgomery county and then moved to Monroe where he continued to live. Here he has spent a long and useful life - upright in all his dealings with his fellow man. He has suffered for more than 20 years with catarrh, yet he never complained of his lot in life. He joined the Methodist church about 18 years since and lived an efficient member of the same. He loved to talk of Jesus and his love. His last days were spent patiently awaiting the call of the Lord. He leaves a large family and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
