According to information from family members living in the area, John Wilson was the grandfather of James Haynes Houlton and Thomas J. Houlton, who were brothers. James and Thomas's parents, Henry H. Houlton and Sophia Wilson, were married in Montgomery County in 1836. Per the marriage records in Montgomery County, Marriage Book D, pages 178 and page 191, Henry H. Hotten married Sophia Wilson on Apr 17, 1836, married by N. W. Bush. JP; the last name could be Houlton. Henry H. Houlton was in the 1840 US Census, Montgomery County, page 192. There were 2 males under 5, 1 male between 20 and 30, and 1 female between 20 and 30. Sophia was head of household in the 1850 Census, age 32, born in North Carolina. With her are children John, age 13, James, age 11, Thomas, age 6, Joseph Jasper, age 4, and Henry, age 2. Their last name is spelled "Holton." It is thought that John Wilson's wife Rebecca, born about 1797, is buried in the unmarked grave next to his. William Haynes Houlton was the son of James Haynes Houlton & his wife Elizabeth Anna Barnett. William never married. The cemetery contains dozens of graves, many of which were once marked by seashells and wooden markers made of lightered pine. Many years ago a fire destroyed the markers, but a family member stated that many Wilsons, Stevens and Stephens are buried there. A portion of the cemetery was also used as a slave burial ground.
