Physicians removed the poison and the woman was locked in the city prison. The Starnes woman was one of the most important witnesses in the trial of Arnold Gilmer, who was hanged April 4 for the murder of Mrs. Lucille Tippets at a rooming house. Flossie Starnes was an eyewitness to the shooting and it was her evidence and the corroboration procured by the state that sent Gilmer to the gallows.
