Within a few days the Governor has refused pardons in the following cases: Hugh G. Tidwell, Tuscaloosa county, murder in the second degree; Joseph Burke, Bibb county, perjury; W. Coleman, Henry county, grand larceny; William Sullivan, Montgomery county, assault with intent to murder—all white men. He has pardoned Jane Callaway (colored), Montgomery county, bigamy and adultery, who has been in the county jail insane for about a year, for whom provision could not be made at the Insane Hospital, and whose friends have made arrangements for taking care of her; and Henry Lowe (colored and 83 years old), Hale county, burglary, upon a newly discovered evidence justifying his discharge.
