SCOTT, son of William and Roxet L. (Wandley) Scott, was born in Luzerne County, Penn., December 25, 1852. He was reared in Philadelphia, and received his education at the public schools. He began life as a bell-boy at the Jefferson Hotel, that city. After a varied experience in all the different positions connected with hotels and their management, he came to Huntsville, Ala., in 1872, and was there connected with the Huntsville House; thence he went to Blount Springs, and later on to New Orleans. He spent some time in different hotels in Montgomery; was proprietor of the Clifton House, Verbena; was connected with hotels in New York, Long Branch and Birmingham, where he speculated in real estate. In March, 1887, he became a real estate dealer and speculator in Decatur. He is a stockholder in the Decatur Land Company, and was one of the incorporators of the Mineral Land Company. William Scott, Sr., was a native of Scotland, and his wife was born in Pennsylvania. He came to the United States in 1840, and was here for a time a fur dealer, and afterward a contractor on public works. In the latter business, he assisted in the construction of the Lehigh Valley Canal, in Pennsylvania. He died in 1854. His wife still survives him.
