Scott ==================================================================== January 2004 ******************DIRECTIONS TO THIS CEMETERY************ FROM I-65 TAKE EXIT 321 (HWY 55) (FALKVILLE) WEST TO HWY 31 NORTH. HWY 55 TURNS RIGHT (NORTH) AND FOLLOWS HWY 31 FOR .25 MILES. HWY 55 THEN TURNS LEFT (WEST). FOLLOW IT 2.5 MILES AND TURN LEFT (SOUTH) ON HUCKABY BRIDGE ROAD. FOLLOW THIS ROAD 1.5 MILES TILL THE ROAD ENDS AT A STOP SIGN. TURN LEFT (EAST) AND FOLLOW THIS ROAD .5 MILES. THE ROAD CURVES TO THE LEFT AGAIN, BUT YOU NEED TO CONTINUE STRAIGHT TOWARD THE MOUNTAIN. GO .3 MILE AND THE CEMETERY WILL BE ON THE LEFT (EAST) SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE ARE SEVERAL HOMES IN THE VICINITY, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO ASK OR WALK TO THE CEMETERY APPROX. 100 FEET FROM THE ROAD. IT IS WELL HIDDEN BEHIND A HOME AND BUSHES. THIS CEMETERY IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND IT IS ADVISABLE TO SEEK PERMISSION FIRST BEFORE EXPLORING IT. MY RELATIVES OWN THE LAND AND IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, I CAN PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH THEM. THE INTERESTING POINT HERE IS THAT THE COOPERS ARE RELATED TO MY FAMILY. I DID THE LAYOUT FOR THIS CEMETERY IN ROWS. THE ROWS START ON THE EAST SIDE AND CONTINUE NUMERICALLY TO THE WEST. THE GRAVES ARE NUMBERED IN ORDER STARTING FURTHEREST FROM THE ROAD AND GOING NORTH. THERE ARE GRAVES THAT HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN. THIS CEMETERY IS FULL TO OUR KNOWLEDGE. IT IS FAIRLY OBVIOUS WHERE THE GRAVES ARE. THE OWNERS MOW IT SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. IF ANYONE HAS INFORMATION, OR CORRECTIONS ON ANY OF THESE, YOU MAY EMAIL ME AT THE ADDRESS ABOVE. CORRECTIONS WILL BE ADDED AT A LATER TIME AS FOOTNOTES TO THIS PAGE. UPDATES WILL BE ADDED AS NECESSARY AND TIME ALLOWING. THANK YOU, MELINDA L. SCOTT 9/23/2003 ******************************************************* MAIN NOTE******* ALL ENGRAVED MARKERS IN THIS CEMETERY WERE SIGNED BY J. McNAB. I HAVE NOTICED THAT NAME IN SEVERAL AREA CEMETERIES. I BELIEVE THAT HE WAS THE STONE CUTTER FOR THE FALKVILLE LACON AREA. UPDATE***1/5/2004**** I WAS CONTACTED BY MARC McNAB AND HE TOLD ME OF HIS GREAT GRANDFATHER. HERE IS A PORTION OF HIS LETTER. "My great grandfather was the J. McNab you mention as the maker of some of the tombstones in Northern Alabama. Here is a little information on him: John McNab was a stone cutter in Scotland and moved to the Cullman area before it was Cullman County. He opened a monument in what is now Cullman and worked there until his death in 1920. Some of his best works are the Graf Statue and the Angel which are both in the Cullman City Cemetery."
