 Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth McDade

Departed this life, at her residence, in Montgomery County, Alabama, June 17th, 
1863,  Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth McDade, consort of James W. McDade.  Her age 34 
years, 6 months and 15 days.  This estimable lady had been confined to her bed 
since last February with typhoid fever;  and during her illness, from the time 
she was taken ill, to her decease, there was scarcely an intermission from 
fever and pain.  Yet, when her burning destroyer was gradually consuming her 
existence, there was scarcely a groan or a murmur -- believing that her 
Redeemer had afflicted her, that He only could relieve her anguish.  We had 
long known this exemplary lady and always found her cheerful, happy and 
serene.  In her was happily blended those Christian graces that characterize 
the true and constant Christian.  She was indeed an amiable woman, under the 
most grievous circumstances, possessing a cheerfulness that dissipated grief 
and sorrow.  A few hours before her death, she solicited her family to come to 
her.  With accents clear and words so soft, she called them to witness her 
dissolution and with prayerful anxiety pointed her husband and children to God 
as their salvation.  Her last words were:   " Lord help me."   She was an 
affectionate wife, a tender and loving mother, a kind mistress, a devoted 
friend.  In that family circle there is a vacuum now, that Time itself can 
never fill -- what more can be said?
