State of Louisiana County of DeSoto Ss On this 26th day of February A. D. one thousand nine hundred and Seven personally appeared before me, a Notary Public Within and for the county and state aforesaid Charles G Jackson, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 80 years of age, and a resident of DeSoto Grand Cane, County of DeSoto, State of Louisiana; and that he is the identical person who ENROLLED at Mobile, Ala under the name of Charles G. Jackson, on the [13th] day of June, 1846, as a Private, in Co. C, First Alabama Regiment Volunteers in the service of the United States, in the Mexican War, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at New Orleans, [May 27, 1847] (State name of war, Civil or Mexican) on the -- day of June, 1847 That he also served (Here give a complete statement of all other services, if any) That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 9 inches; Complexion, Light; Color of eyes, Gray; Color of hair, Black; that his occupation was Farmer; that he was born Oct. 19th 1826 at Perry Co., Ala That his several places of residence since leaving the service has been as follows: (State date of each change, as nearly as possible.) DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, Left Alabama Last of Nov. 1847 That he is -- a pensioner. That he has --heretofore applied for pension No. of Pension Certificate 17323 (If a pensioner, the certificate number only need be given. If not the number of the former application, if one was made) That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of February 6, 1907. That his post-office address is Grand Cane, County of DeSoto, State of Louisiana Charles G. Jackson (Claimant's Signature in Full) Attest: (1) R. S. Pickett (2) L. Y. Tidwell Also personally appeared R. S. Pickett, residing in Grand Cane, La and L. Y. Tidwell, residing in, Grand Cane, La, Persons who I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Charles G. Jackson the claimant, sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the claimant and their acquaintance with him of one years and 30 years, respectively, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. D. 1907 and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration, etc., were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing, including the words DeSoto and 4, erased, and the words Grand Cane and 26, added; and that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. William H. Smith (Signature) Notary Public (Official Character) Additional Comments: Charles Green Jackson was the son of Abraham Wyche Jackson and Jane F. Crow and the grandson of Green B. Jackson, Clara Yeates, Charles Crow and Sarah Harlan. He was born in east Perry County near the Shiloh Church and moved farther south with his family to a new homestead near the Ocmulgee Church. He returned from the Mexican War in June 1847 and moved to DeSoto Parish, Louisiana in September 1847 where he lived out his life. He died in September 13, 1911. During the War for Southern Independence, he enlisted in Company B. of the 24th Louisiana Volunteer Infantry and later served in the Consolidated Crescent Regiment. In Mexico, Jackson served under General Zachary Taylor and during the War for Southern Independence, he served under Zachary Taylor's son, General Richard Taylor, giving him a unique circumstance of serving under father and son in two different wars.
