FUNERAL RITES FOR O. G.DUNKIN


Funeral services for Osie Garrett Dunkin, age 73, were held at 3:00 p.m. 
Friday, October 27, from the Mt. Pleasant Church with the Rev. M.D. Harper, 
pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Dunkin died at the Perry County Hospital last Thursday at 3:00 p.m. 
following a short illness. He was a native of Perry County, but for many years 
was employed as a carpenter in Selma. Several years ago he returned to Marion 
where he served as jailer at the Perry County Jail in Marion. He retired about 
three years ago and since that time had been making his home with a nephew, 
Reuben Sid Dunkin, near Sprott

Surviving are four nephews, Reuben Sid Dunkin, and Cecil Dunkin of Sprott, 
Joseph F Dunkin of Marion, and Zackery Sewell "Jack" Hughes of Selma. Three 
neices also survive. They are Mrs. Ada Hughes (G. H.)Ham of Selma, Mrs. Naomi 
(C. E) Madison of Fulton, Mrs. Ouida (G. S.) Langston of Centerville. 

Serving as active pallbearers were great nephews: Bently Dunkin, H. C. Dunkin, 
Kenneth Dunkin, Raymond H. Ham, John Hughes Ham, and Wilton McCullough.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of Anderson Brown-Service Funeral Home of 
Marion.

Osie Garrett Dunkin was the son of James Henry Dunkin and Mary Winnie Morton 
Dunkin, grandson of Jeremiah F Morton and Margaret Stewart, great great 
grandson of Andrew J Stewart and Mary Johnson. also a grandson of John H 
Dunkin and Rebecca J Orr,  a great grandson of Able Dunkin, Jr. and Elizabeth 
Byerly all of Perry County,Alabama.
