Hughey, after an illness of one week. Mrs. Hughey suffered a stroke of apoplexy on the morning of June 3d And while she had the best medical attention and the tender care and sympathy of husband, children and friends, she passed peacefully away at 7:00 on the afternoon of June 9th, and was buried in the Mt. Olive cemetery at 11 a.m. June 11th. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral services which were conducted by Rev. A. M. Perry assisted by Rev. J. D. Martin and J. S. Bolling. Mrs Hughey, nee MIss Ellen Brazier was born January 9th, 1850 and was married to Geo W. Hughey September 1871 with which union were joined 13 children, five boys and eight girls, all of whom survive her, except one boy who died in his infancy. The children are W. M. and A. N. McElroy, M. Y. Hughey, Georgia A. Ham, Carrie E. Ham, Estelle Miller, Fannie Young, Mattie Willie and Anna Hughey all of whom reside within a radius of three miles of the old home, except Mrs. Georgia A. Ham who resides at White House Texas and M. Y. Hughey whose home is in Coman Oklahoma. Thirty living grandchildren is the result of this union. Mrs. Hughey gave herself to the Lord in baptism in early life and attached herself to the Baptist Church and ?? a faithful member always exercising a spirit of love, patience and kindness to all with whom she associated. Mrs. Hughey was especially fond of her husband and children, and was never happier than when doing something for their pleasure and happiness. A place is made vacant in this home that cannot be filled and only endured by the help and grace of God. It seems hard to understand why Mrs. Hughey should be taken from her husband and children and leave them to mourn. But God knows best, His ways are perfect. May her death prove a savor unto life to those that mourn for her. God needed her sweet spirit to brighten His kingdom and sent His angel to bear it home. To her husband, children, and grandchildren relatives and friends we would say strive to imitate her sweet ?? and Christian life ?? are called to pass through the dark valley and shadow of death be prepared to meet her in that upper and better kingdom where she has gone to live. One who loved her. (Written for the Family) The children miss their darling mother Oh how hard to give her up But God sent an angel for her and called her home above. They have crossed the silent river In a home not made with hands. And with the Father they are waiting, To welcome use in that happy land. In this world are tears and sorrows, But sooner or later it will cease. We all will cross the silent waters And live in perfect peace.
