W. Hughey After an illness of 10 months Geo. W. Hughey a leading citizen of Easst Perry passed peacefully away at his home in Severe Beat Saturday Sept. 5th and was buried at Mt. Olive church on Sunday the 6th at 4 p.m. Bro. Jno T. Martin of Brent conducted the funeral service after which the Masons took charge and he was buried Masonically. An unusually large crowd attended the funeral. Mr. Hughey was 73 years old at the time of his death and was well known in Perry and adjoining counties. He was a life long member of ???? and was loyal to it's creeds and precepts liberal in the support of the gospel always ready to do his part, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Centerville for 40 years, he loved Masonry and was true to the precepts of the order. Mr. Hughey was a public spirited man and always took part in all things that pertained to the betterment of his community, county and state, he was a man of extraordinary intelligence and his advice was often sought by others. Mr. Hughey was married in early life to Miss Ellen Brazier who preceded him to the grave 15 years ago. To this union was born 13 children chldren, 5 boys and 8 girls, 9 of whom still survive him. He also leaves living 59 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Those who survive him are W. M. Hughey Sprott Ala., Mrs. W. M. Miller Sprott Ala, Mrs. Monroe Miller Ralph, Ala, M. Y. and E. Mack Hughey Sprott Ala, Mrs. A. L. Geesling, Randolph Ala, Mrs. Palmer Perry Liman Miss, Mrs. John Massey Midland Texas. He leaves the following brothers Samp Hughey Marion Ala, J. W. Hughey, R. A. Hughey, A. B. Hughey, Sprott Ala, Elbert Hughey Marion, Ala, and one sister Mrs. Monroe Nichols Sprott Ala. Truly it can be said a good husband, a good father, a good citizen has gone but his works will live on.
