FANNIE KING IS DROWNED IN HER WELL Marion was greatly shocked about 9'clock last Sunday morning when it became known that Mrs. Fannie King, wife of Mr. W. A. King, had been drowned in a well located in the yard at her home. Only a few minutes before the sad tragedy Mrs. King was talking with her husband and stated that she would go and put a piece of wood in the stove. Not returning as quickly as her husband expected he went to look for her and his attention was attracted to the well by her struggles. The alarm was quickly given and the neighbors consisting of relatives and friends responded and the body extricated almost in time for life to be resussitated. Mr. Frank Block who went down into the well says the body was covered in about three feet of water. Mrs. King had not been in good health for several weeks and her husband had made arrangements to carry her to the springs Tuesday of this week. Mrs. King was almost 65 years of age. She was a daughter of Major Modawell for many years a leading attorney at the Marion bar. She was born and raised in Marion and had been teaching music in Judson College about forty years. News of her sad death will bring sorrow to the hearts of thousands of students she has taught not only in Alabama but throughtout the South. Besides her husband one sister, Mrs. Benion Cocke, and several nephews and nieces survive her. Mrs. King had been organist at the Siloam Baptist church for many years and few have been the times when she was absent from duty, and she will be as sadly missed by this congregation as by her co-laborers and students of Judson. The funeral services were conducted from the residence Monday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. Waite, assisted by Dr. Bomar, president of the Judson, and the local clergy, and her remains interred in the family lot of the city cemetery.
