Hughey was born 28 Oct 1852 in Perry County, Alabama to William Jefferson Hughey 1827-1911 and Emily Ellen Orr Hughey 1851-1929. He married Ellen Brazier on 24 Sept. 1871 in Perry County, Alabama. She was born 11 Feb 1855; died 9 Sept. 1910. They are buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Sportt, Perry County, Alabama. They were founding members of Ephesus Church. They had the following children: William Mitchell Hughey married Hattie Miller, Georgia Ann Hughey married Jesse Calvin Ham,Rachel Emily Caroline "Carrie" Hughey married John Harrison Ham, Mary Frances "Fannie" Hughey married Luddie Young, Andrew W. "Judge" Hughey married Lottie Logan, Eva Hughey married William M. Miller, Richard Hughey, Montezuma "Zuma" Hughey married Dovie Ann Stone, Estelle Hughey married Monroe Miller, Elbert McElroy Hughey married Etha Dunkin, Mattie Hughey married Albert Geeslin, Nellie Hughey married Palmer Perry, and Anna Hughey married John Massey.
