This denomination traces its origin through the Methodist Episcopal Church, back to the Evangelical Reformation begun in England by John and Charles Wesley, of Oxford University and Presbyters of the Church of England. They had no bishops nor presiding elders, only presidents of each Annual Conference who continued to serve as pastors. A Committee made appointments of preachers that were then approved by the Conference. Lay representatives were elected to Annual and General Conferences. The following is a letter written by Rev. W.C. Conner, a former pastor of this church. "Bethel Methodist Protestant Church was organized about the year 1831, and has never been extinct. She has had much to discourage her at times, being without pastoral supply and after the war of 1861 to 1865. For some years had no connection with the rest of the Church scattered throughout the middle and southern part of the State. Brother Harper and Brother Stewart kept the fires kindled up on her alter. The second Church house was built while H. H. McNeal was pastor from 1877 to 1880. For many years Bethel was connected with Jennings Chapel and Shady Grove Church, but in 1899 it was connected with two new Churches and made a circuit. A new house of worship was commenced Nov of 1905 and dedicated Sept 1907. Rev. W.G. McDaniel, President, Preached the dedication sermon. Pastor W.C. Conner, being absent due to sickness. The Brethren made a great sacrifice in building this Church, but all feel proud of the success achieved. A Register was bought by sister Sarah Kilpatrick and presented to the Church. The Pastor was asked to make as complete a record as possible with what aid he could get. With three years work in this Church I feel the Lord hath let my lot be cast in a pleasant place. May he who hath led them this far continue to lead to Victory is the Prayer of W.C. Conner Pastor." The following is the register Rev. W.C. Conner began in 1907.
